The minister will announce the date of the elections, or any changes to the date. It said consultations with the minister of cooperative governance and traditional affairs, Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, regarding the proclamation of the municipal elections, had begun. The IEC rejected reports that the commission intends to postpone elections beyond the constitutionally permitted period.
There is still enough time for the IEC to plan for the type of election that is going to take place during a pandemic.
